How fantastic was numbers day! Year 2 loved it. We spent a day with numbers, playing maths games, dancing to BBC supermovers fractions and rocking away on TTRockstars! Remember you can still donate to the NSPCC through parent pay.
This week we began our science by planting our sunflower seeds. We also planted bulbs and cress which we will monitor and observe under different conditions to see how sunlight and water might impact their growth. The plants will be kept under four conditions:
We have made our predictions and now the observation process will commence over the next few weeks. Watch this space!
This half term we focus our Topic around the famous Lady of the Lamp: Florence Nightingale. Linking in with our current value, the children have used their empathy skills to think about what it might have felt like to be in the hospitals during the Crimean War.
In Science, we are looking at the life cycles of plants which includes planting, caring for and observing the growth of sunflower seeds, bulbs and water cress.
There will be no formal SATs this year, but we will be allowing children to experience SATs style questions for English, Maths and Science towards the latter end of this half term, preparing them nicely for their transition to Key Stage 2.

SONG: ‘Tell Me Somebody’
Tell me somebody
Do you know what is Christmas?
I really would like to know
I’m gonna look around
Til the answer is found
Can anybody let me know?
Tell me somebody
Do you know what is Christmas?
It looks so good to me
With all the decorations that shine and glisten
With the lights on the Christmas tree.
Are you ready, everybody
To look around?
Are you ready, everybody
To look around?
Are you ready, everybody
To look around?
I really would like to know. (x2)
SONG: ‘Winter Nights’.
When the winter nights grow long
And the stars are shining bright,
I will rock you in my arms
And hold you through the night.
When the winter nights grow dark
And the fire is burning bright,
I will rock you in my arms
Until the morning light.
And my arms will keep you safe
And the fire will keep you warm
And the song inside your soul
Gives you shelter from the storm.
SONG: ‘Christmas Dinner’.
Here in the kitchen everyone is panicking
So many things that need to be done.
Lots of smells in the air
Hustle bustle everywhere
The heat is rising; I hope it will be ready on time
Nuts and currants weighing the ingredients
So many things that need to be done
Mixing pastry, following the recipe
The heat is rising, I hope it will be ready on time.
Chorus:
Christmas dinner! Christmas dinner!
The heat is rising, I hope it will be ready on time (x2)
Roasting, toasting, boiling and simmering
So many things that need to be done.
Peeling, slicing, add a bit of spice in.
The heat is rising I hope it will be ready on time.
Mixing, turning, something is burning.
So many things that need to be done.
The turkey is overdone, now the cook is on the run
The heat is rising, I hope it will be ready on time,
Christmas dinner! Christmas dinner!
The heat is rising, I hope it will be ready on time (x2)
The heat is rising, I hope it will be ready on time
The heat is rising, I hope it will be ready on time
SONG: ‘Glory to God’.
Glory to God in the highest
Glory to God in the highest
Glory to God in the highest
Glory to God x2
Good tidings of great joy we bring
To all the people
Good tidings of great joy we bring
To all the world
For unto us is born this day
In the town of David
A saviour who is Christ the Lord
Christ the Lord
(Repeat all then …)
Glory to God in the highest
Glory to God in the highest
Glory to God in the highest
Glory to God x2
We Wish You a Merry Christmas
We wish you a Merry Christmas
We wish you a Merry Christmas
We wish you a Merry Christmas
and a Happy New Year.
Good tidings we bring to you and your kin,
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Now bring us some figgy pudding
Now bring us some figgy pudding
Now bring us some figgy pudding
So bring some out here.
Good tidings we bring to you and your kin,
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy new Year.
For we all like figgy pudding
We all like figgy pudding
We all like figgy pudding
So bring some out here.
Good tidings we bring to you and your kin,
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
We won't go until we’ve got some
We won't go until we’ve got some
We won't go until we’ve got some
So bring some out here.
Good tidings we bring to you and your kin,
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
Razzle Dazzle
There’s a razzle and a dazzle of light in the sky,
Light in the sky, light in the sky,
There’s a razzle and a dazzle of light in the sky,
Shining down, down, down, down to the ground.
There’s a flashing and a splashing of light in the sky,
Light in the sky, light in the sky,
There’s a flashing and a splashing of light in the sky,
Shining down, down, down, down to the ground.
There’s a gleaming and a streaming of light in the sky,
Light in the sky, light in the sky,
There’s a gleaming and a streaming of light in the sky,
Shining down, down, down, down to the ground.
There’s a razzle and a dazzle of light in the sky,
Light in the sky, light in the sky,
There’s a razzle and a dazzle of light in the sky,
Shining down, down, down, down to the ground.
