What's Going On in Reception?
W/C 13th January
The children have enjoyed being back in school and the frosty weather. Some of us brave the outside and explored the garden area. We went on an ice hunt and found a crystal clear layer of ice in a tuff tray. We explored how it felt, looked, how it was formed and what will happen to it. Then, great fun was had smashing the ice!
The children have also really begun to develop as a cohort, looking after each other in reading stories when friends are feeling sad, putting a blanket on classmates when they are tired and being so kind and caring.
Well done Robins and Sparrows!

5 Little Men in a Flying Saucer
W/C 16th December
In Reception we are fully getting into the swing of Christmas since our amazing Nativity Song Concert last week! We have been enjoying 'snow' in the Christmas Curiosity Corner, dressing up as elves and making hats for Christmas lunch on Thursday. What a wonderful festive week!
W/C 2nd December
Reception enjoyed a author visit from Bethan Sennett and a drama workshop around her book 'Don't Eat Me!'. The children loved acting out the different characters in the story such as Lemmy Lizard and Sally Snake.
We also have really got into our junk modelling and loved playing and mark making with large boxes as you can see! It's helped strengthen our fine motor skills and our role playing.
W/C 19th November
As part of our work on 'People Who Help Us' we had a visitor in Reception. Dom, a police officer from Warwickshire Police came to see us. He told us about what police do, wear, how they help people, what uniform they wear including hats which some of us got to try on. He even bought his police car in for us to see! We got to look at the different lights and listen to the sirens - it was really loud but fun!
We have also had the police fancy dress out in the role play area so we can act out being police officers during provision.
w/c 4th November 2024
We have enjoyed listening to the story of Rama and Sita in celebration of Diwali. We made Rangoli tiles out of clay and drew a picture of our multi headed monster, like Ravana in the story.
In maths we explored 3D shapes, finding out whether they roll or slide. In the outdoors area, it was great fun to send 3D shapes down some guttering to test out whether they would roll down.
This was also our first week in Forest School. The children thought it was brilliant to play in the mud kitchen and learn how to stay safe in a natural environment.
Week 5:
The children enjoyed taking part in a Street Dance workshop last week. They were grooving to some funky songs with the dance teacher Olivia and even learned a short routine!
This week, we've started painting in the craft areas in the classroom and expressing our inner artists! The children have painted rainbows, people and experimented with mixing colours.
Week 3 20.09.24
This week the children have discovered the Colour Monsters! We've read the book Colour Monsters by Anna Llenas about a monster who changes colour to show his different emotions: happiness, sadness, fear, calm, love and anger. Each child has a small picture of their face which they place on the colour monster to match how they feel.
The children are playing beautifully together, this week they've enjoyed playing 'floor is lava' and creating colour monster collages together.
On Thursday 19th October, Louise from the Road Safety Team at Warwickshire visited our Reception classes to introduce them to Warwick Bear. He has very important messages about how to keep safe when using a bike or scooter, or walking around the roads. We know to think, stop, look, listen and hold hands to keep us safe.
