SEN Teaching Assistant Vacancy


About the Role

Bridgetown Primary School is looking to appoint an enthusiastic, dedicated and flexible Teaching Assistant to join our friendly, dynamic and thriving school.  The successful candidate will support children with special educational needs on a 1:1 and small group basis.

The role is Monday to Friday, 8.40am – 3.20pm term time only and is full time, though there may be some flexibility to offer it as a job-share role. The post is available from September 2024 onwards.  You will join an amazing team of staff and will receive great support.  Our school is situated on the edge of the historic and cultural town of Stratford-upon-Avon and benefits from many strong community links.

Key Requirements

  1. Good numeracy and literacy skills 
  2. Experience of working within relevant age groups within a learning environment.
  3. Experience of working with children with Special Educational Needs.
  4. Ability to work well as part of a team.
  5. An understanding of classroom roles and responsibilities.
  6. Able to use basic ICT including computer, audio, video equipment and photocopier.
  7. Good keyboard skills and knowledge of relevant ICT packages.
  8. Knowledge of relevant policies and codes of practice and awareness of relevant legislation.
  9. An ability to understand the principles of child development and learning processes
  10. Ability to relate well to children.
  11. Ability to relate well to adults.
  12. Ability to understand roles of parents and carers in pupil learning and demonstrate ability to liaise with them sensitively and effectively.
  13. Ability to observe, monitor and provide constructive feedback on pupils’ progress.
  14. Ability to stay calm and be patient and understanding when dealing with children
  15. To be able to deal with inappropriate behaviour in a calm and non-judgemental way following school guidance.
  16. Ability to successfully complete first aid training as required.
  17. Ability and willingness to identify own training needs and participate in training.
  18. To be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people within the school.
  19. Interact with children enthusiastically, positively, creatively and flexibly to develop communication, social skills, self-regulation and independence.
