English

This week we are continuing to read the non-fiction text Life on the English Waterways and being very creative in our responses to it. The challenges are:

  • Day 1 – Read Chapter 5 and write a recount as a canal horse including a conversation. Please check that the children are using speech punctuation correctly and not just wiritng "neigh, neigh" !!.

  • Day 2 – Read Chapter 6 and focus on what food the canal boat people ate, and where they got it from!

  • Day 3 – Finish the text (you do not have to read all the diary entries at the end but you may like to dip into them). Write a diary entry of a typical day for a character of your choice.

Spellings

Spellings this week – EVEN MORE –ous words!!

This time the focus is on dropping the ‘e’ at the end of the root word such as fame – famous; nerve – nervous. But words that have ‘ge’ at the end do not drop the ‘e’ eg courage – courageous. Please make sure the children know what the ‘root’ word is for each spelling. Thank you!

Maths

This week in maths you will be investigating angles, triangles and quadrilaterals. We hope you enjoy this work.

We have also set Mathletics and Rockstar tables for you.

Geography and Science

This week you will be investigating condensation and the water cycle. The water cycle occurs in both the science and geography curriculums. It is one of the most important processes that enables humans to live al over the world.

There are two lessons this week:

Lesson 1: Where did the water come from?

Lesson 2: Where did the rain come from?

You will need a supply of ice cubes and chilled bits and pieces for the first lesson.
