Summer Term 2

This half term our topic is 'Save our Seaside'. We shall be looking at seaside towns and what there is to do at the seaside as well as looking at traditional seaside food. We will be locating seaside resorts on a map of the UK as well as finding out where Stratford is in comparison.

Our role play area is set up as a Punch and Judy show and the children will be making their own finger puppets in DT.

In art we will be doing line drawings of objects you might see at the seaside.

At the end of the half term, we hope to have our own knights and maidens banquet, making and tasting food from medieval times!

Spring Term 2

This half term our topic is all about Wonderful Weather! We will be learning about the different seasons and the weather we usually experience in our country. We will also be looking at the different clothes we wear at different times of the year as well as keeping weather diaries.

We are really excited about our upcoming trip to Hatton Country World and will be following this up in class with a recount of our visit.

In the lead up to Easter we will be looking at the Easter story, creating an Easter Tree display showing our understanding of the key points and how Christians celebrate this special time.

Spring Term 1

We hope that you've all had a wonderful Christmas break and are ready to get started with our new topic: 'It's a Child's Life'.

We will be looking at toys from the past and comparing them to modern day toys, especially the ones the children received for Christmas.  We will be encouraging children to talk to you and older relatives about the toys you played with and how they are different from their toys.  Wouldn't it be wonderful if you could find some of the toys to share with them?

A highlight of this unit is always the Victorian Day where children are asked to come dressed as a Victorian school child and find out, first hand, what it would've been like to attend school in the 1800's.  We will be sending more information on this shortly.

This term we will also be setting an 'optional' home learning project for the children to undertake if they choose to.

Please see our knowledge organiser below to gain more of an insight in to the content taught this term.

Many thanks,

The Year One Team
