Pupil and Parent Voice

Summer Term Meeting Dates

Summer Term Meeting Dates 1

Parent Voice

We welcome your thoughts and ideas at any time and you can contact us in a variety of ways.

We regularly invite parents to contribute their ideas to working groups. This year we have a group reviewing our sex and relationships policy and our behaviour policy. Information about these is sent in our fortnightly newsletters.

Many of your shared your views about the school in the governors' annual survey, the results of which can be viewed in the document below:

Bridgetown School Council

Welcome to our school council.

School Council : What? Why? How? When?

Pupil voice is key to the development of our school. The school governors and leadership team think the views are important.

What is the School Council?

  • An inclusive, structured, meeting time for discussion and decision-making.
  • A means for children to raise issues and concerns.
  • A means to consult all pupils.

Why have a School Council?

  • To help children develop responsible attitudes.
  • To improve behaviour.
  • To give children hands-on experience of issues in the National Curriculum, including PHSE and Citizenship.
  • To create a feeling of belonging, encourage listening to others and develop self-confidence.
  • To improve pupil/teacher relationships.

How does the School Council work?

  • The chair person leads the meetings, supported by a teacher.
  • Children are encouraged to listen to each other, respond to questions and share their ideas with the group.

How often does the School Council meet?
Usually once a fortnight for 30-40 minutes.

How do we find out what happened?
We will update all children and parents in assemblies and newsletters on outcomes of school council meetings, decisions made and actions taken.

Kirsty, our kitchen chef from Class Catering, cooked us items from the new menu for us to sample and comment on. Most of the food was given ten out of ten however there were some small alterations we shared that would make the food even better. The council felt that they could recommend the new menu to their classes. They particularly like the bacon, chicken and cheese pasta bake!
